Fertility
Acupuncture
I
completed a post-graduate on women's health in 2003.
Pre-conception
now represents more than 50% of my practice.

Whether
you have been trying unsuccessfully, have suffered pregnancy
loss, are planning a baby or have decided to seek IVF help,
I can offer treatment to assist you in becoming parents.
In
recent years, acupuncture has become the treatment of choice
for supporting people using Assisted Reproductive Technologies
as well as for those who wish to find out the state of their
reproductive health before trying for a baby.
Female
infertility
Many women
come with recognised conditions which can cause infertility:
•Polycystic
ovarian syndrome
•Blocked Fallopian tubes
•Endometriosis
|
Other
causes may involve allergic reactions to male sperm or premature ovarian
failure. Many cases of infertility will have an "unknown"
western cause.
 |
I
pay close attention to every detail of the cycle and by studying
the subtle changes in symptoms and temperature we can provide
a very targetted treatment.
My
aims with each treatment depend on where you are in your cycle
and what the body needs to be doing at that time. |
Start
keeping a menstrual calendar. Note the date when your period starts,
the number of days it lasts, and anything else I might want to know
about.
It is best to plan acupuncture fertility treatment as soon as you are
trying to conceive and ideally 3 months before undergoing IVF.
Men Health
Acupuncture research has shown improvement to male sperm health.
Too often women take the bulk of responsibility for reproductive health.
Not only does this leave men out, but it creates an imbalance in terms
of attention and care to the overall situation which is the responsibility
of two people. Men can be left out of participating in their own process
of achieving fatherhood.
I can offer special treatment rates for couples
who wish jointly to look after their desire to be parents.

Acupuncture
in Pregnancy
"acupuncture
is good because it does not involve any drugs, which women have to be
careful about taking during pregnancy"
 |
The
First Trimester
I recommend regular acupuncture during the
first trimester. During this stage, there is an increased risk of
miscarriage and an even higher risk with IVF pregnancies or where
there has been recurrent miscarriage.
Acupuncture can also be very beneficial for morning sickness, urinary
tract infections, constipation, sleeping problems, anxiety, back
ache or blood pressure problems. |
Pre-Birth
I recommend Pre-Birth Acupuncture in the final
3 weeks of pregnancy to prepare women for childbirth. Acupuncture is
used sucessfully for labour induction.
Post-Natal Care
Acupuncture plays a key role in the post-natal
period, the six week period following childbirth. It may help with abdominal
cramps, breast discomfort/infection, emotional support, uterine bleeding,
night sweats, breast feeding problems, insufficient lactation, and post-natal
depression.
